The Correct Order to Apply Your Morning Skincare Products

If you’re like us, your skincare routine is something you take very seriously. Between moisturizers, toners, cleansers, and all the other good stuff working hard to prevent wrinkles – you have your routine down pat. But, the one question we get very frequently from our clients is what the proper order for applying these products is.

Step One: Cleanser

The first step to your morning skincare routine should always be using a cleanser. This will get any of the dirt and oil out of your pores, leaving you with a fresh, clean face. If you use both an oil and a water-based cleanser, always use the oil cleanser first!

Step Two: Toner

Using a toner after cleansing your face will restore your skin’s natural pH levels after cleansing and will ensure that the other products you use work correctly.

Step Three: Serums

Who else is loving serums as much as we are?! The best serums to use during the day contain Vitamin C and hyaluronic acid. If you utilize separate serums inside of a combo, always apply the hydrating serum before the treatment serum.

Step Four: Eye Cream/Serum

The skin under your eyes is the thinnest and most sensitive area of skin on your entire face. Because of this, you’ll want to apply only eye-specific products in this area.

Step Five: Moisturizer

Since moisturizer is one of the heavier skincare products that you’ll be applying, you’ll want to apply it at the tail end of your routine. If you notice issues with the way your makeup is applying on top of your moisturizer, try a lighter moisturizer or one with a gel-like consistency.

Step Six: SPF

No matter what time of the year it is or if it’s cloudy, you want to be wearing sunscreen every single day. After applying moisturizer, apply your SPF to keep your skin safe against the harmful UV rays of the sun.
