5 Tips to Keep Your Hair Healthy

We all know one person in our lives that has perfect, shiny, and non-frizzy hair. It’s almost as though they’ve stepped out of the hair salon every time you see them. Although we might never have as perfect hair as they have, you can take small, easy steps to keep your hair looking healthy every day, even when you didn’t style it that morning!

1. Wash your hair sparingly

When you wash your hair, the hair swells forcing the cuticle up. Overtime, this causes your hair to become frizzy and break. Whenever possible, skip a wash and embrace dry shampoo to remove grease and sweat.

2. Avoid hot showers & only shampoo your scalp

Shampoo should only be used on the scalp. The hair at the scalp is the youngest, and greaser than the ends of your hair which tend to be dry and brittle. When you rinse, the remaining shampoo will touch the ends so you don’t have to worry about over washing the ends of your hair. When conditioning, focus on the ends of your hair to moisturize them.

Hot water blasting on your scalp can cause your hair to become dry and brittle, as well as make it prone to tangles.

3. Use low-heat when blow drying your hair

One of the easiest ways to damage your hair is by over-using heat products at high temperatures. If you can, let your hair dry most days but when you do have to use a hair dryer, make sure to use it on low heat with the nozzle pointing down to eliminate frizz and reduce damage.

4. Get a hair cut ever 6-8 weeks

A good rule of thumb is to get a hair cut every 6 to 8 weeks. It doesn’t have to be anything dramatic but at least 1/4″ to get rid of any dead ends.

5. Don’t rub your hair dry with a towel

Try to avoid rubbing your hair dry with a towel to reduce frizz, breakage, and dead ends. If you do prefer to towel dry, use a soft, clean towel and press/squeeze the water out of your hair.
